Eccentric artistic genius Gaudi y Cornet has gifted Barcelona some of its most famous and interesting architecture. Even the most time-pressed traveller simply must make time to see his most famous work, La Sagrada Familia (Cathedral of the Holy Family). It is not complete, as Gaudi died during its construction, but nevertheless, it’s stunning.

An important port town during the Middle Ages, Barcelona still boasts a Gothic Quarter, with complete architecture from that period. The Gothic Quarter is just a few blocks from La Rambla – the streets are incredible and mazelike and are home to some of the most significant buildings in Barcelona, including the Cathedral.

To complete the ‘must sees’ in a city where there are millions, make a trip to the Picasso Museum. Art fanatics will lose themselves here – it is very close to a complete collection of Picasso’s work including ceramics.

The best thing to remember when planning a trip to Barcelona is to make sure you have plenty of time! Barcelona will prove to be more than you ever dreamed possible, more than you can believe when you are actually there and far too much to ever do justice to in your descriptions to others.
